Happy 18th Birthday Son

Kobi Dominik
Today would have been my son’s 18th birthday.  Unfortunately after fighting a terminal illness (Juvenile Huntington’s disease) he went to sleep on the 21st August 2008 aged 13.
I know this is my crafting blog but it was a result of my son’s illness that I took up crafting again.  I had previously attempted card-making in 2002 but had gone very giddy purchasing crafty items that when I sat down to actually make something nothing went and I gave up the hobby.
In January 2008 Kobi was taken into hospital on his 13th birthday with pneumonia.  I got chatting to a woman (Nicola) that had one of her twins (aged 3 weeks) in hospital too.  We chatted and laughed and she told me all about scrapbooking.  Two weeks later I was attending a crop she organised and I was hooked!  Many purchases later (still some giddy ones) I was plodding along lovely.
Now in 2013 I am being an Independent Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator having never used a stamp set until the week before I joined Stampin’ Up! in November 2011.
Crafting has really been one of the things that has helped me deal with the grief but also enabled me to made some wonderful friends that I would never have met.

  1. Crafting is so therapeutic both physically and mentally. Maybe the NHS should consider giving crafting vouchers instead of medication for depression!

Happy Birthday Kobi, Sleep Well dear boy.

  2. Sorry you couldn't all be together cos of snow. Thinking if you all.
